Downtown columbus, ohio
In the last several years, mayor of Columbus, Ohio (Mayor Coleman) and the city council have taken big steps to revitalize downtown Columbus. The Columbus Commons were built (which is a big park downtown and replaced the City Center Mall), the Scioto Mile (an area for walking, biking, and fancy restaurants along the Scioto River) was developed, all in a plan to bring people downtown to hang out. The Scioto Mile connects COSI, several theatres, restaurants, and hotels. Many Condos have been built so that more Columbus residents live in the downtown area. In 2010, the population in downtown Columbus was 7,416. Since the construction of new housing and parks, the population is now over 9,000. So, you can see that the effort to get more people downtown is working.
